Message from God

For those of you who listened to the podcast here is one of the many tidbits I left out. Two days before my tumor review board at UCLA, and three days before my second biopsy that changed everything, my dad recieved this fortune in a cookie when he picked up some take out. Have you ever seen a fortune cookie that said something like that? He didn't tell me about it until after the diagnosis changed to benign but then he laminated it for me and I keep it up on my bulletin board as a reminder of all that God did.
I have heard of several people getting the fortune, "You will recieve good news from a distant land", before their referrals. This happened to a friend of mine on her birthday and the next day she received her special needs referral that didn't come with the regular batch. She was really wanting to adopt but her husband wasn't sure. One day as they were discussing it he said that he needed a message from God and then he left to go to the post office. When he came back in a little bit he slapped some stamps down on the kitchen table in front of his wife. He had gotten them out of a machine and was surprised to see that every stamp said "Adopt a Child", so they did.

Ok, I couldn't resist on this one.

Two times in my life, I believe God spoke to me through a fortune cookie.

The first time was when I was in college. I was thinking about going on a mission trip to Romania. I was discussing it over lunch with a friend at a Chinese restaurant. My fortune cookie said, "You will step on the soil of many lands." That trip took me to Switzerland, Austria, Hungary, Yugoslavia and Romania.

The next time was (like your friend) the night before we received our referral on Caroline (which we weren't expecting for a few more months). We went to a Chinese restaurant and my fortune said, "Good news will come to you from far away." It wasn't on my birthday, though. I do have some of those adoption stamps and I have put one in each of their baby books.

The first fortune is in my photo album from my Romania trip and the other one is in a frame with Caroline's referral picture. (sniff!)

    Too funny!

God works in the most mysterious ways!! I never count out anything! You know Greg was wished for by Courtney throwing a quarter into a fountain! We had resigned ourselves to Courtney being an only child when she made that wish. I found out I was pregnant the next week. She was fertility meds and he didn't come along until she was 4 and 1/2 years old! (By the way, no one in our family is allowed to throw anything but pennies into fountains/ponds/wishing wells anymore!)

Why does anyone doubt that the God who created the Universe and all that is in it with only the spoken word, could speak through a Fortune Cookie?

Christi, I know you and Abbey, and there is no doubt in my mind that God placed His almighty hand on your life and DZZ's life in China to create the most incredible bond.

Then He used a Fortune Cookie and a stork to deliver the news, that's all!

I never eat Chinese food, not a big fan of it & normally only get it every New Years... but oddly enough, I had a weird 'craving' for it late August, 2005. My fortune that night: "A cheerful letter or message is on it's way to you."
A week later, I received Ruby's referral. That fortune? It's forever a part of her history as it's permanent place is now in the picture frame that holds her precious little photos.

    *smiling remembering that moment*

You just gave me chills!!!! Good Chills!!!!!!

I to have received many "signs" along this journey. Early in our researching stage of our adoption I sent away for information packets from many many agencies. I would eagerly check my mailbox each day. I finally got my first packet in the mail and was excitedly walking back into my house from the mailbox. I noticed something blowing around near my garage. I stopped to pick it up thinking it was garbage. It was a pink half deflated helium balloon with the words "It's A Girl" on it. That was my first "sign" that I was on the right path.

After we had done our fingerprints for the 171-h my hubby and I went to a favorite Chinese resteraunt in town (OKC too!!) ours were a "special gift is coming your way" and "you will soon travel to a far away place"!! Every other person in the resteraunt kept saying our future daughter's name...Sarah!! It was so amazing!!

On July 20, 2005, DH and I ate Chinese food and DH's fortune had a word in Chinese and it was daughter. Two weeks later we found out our LID was July 20, 2005. Fast forward two years, Sydney and I went out for Chinese on the one year anniversary of her Gotcha Day (April 24, 2007) and her fortune said "You will soon have a new friend." Yep, a couple weeks later we found out we were LID for mei mei on 4/24/07 and on 5/9/07 we were matched with Sydney's mei mei through the WCP.
