No, no, no

Now mommy is saying it too.
We have reached an unwanted milestone. Yesterday she figured out how to undo all the baby-proofing. She went around checking all the cabinets to make sure she could do it. Then she started pulling things out of the cabinets. Ahhhhhhhhhhh. It's not that there's anything unsafe, it's just the convenience of being able to keep everything where I want it (okay, it's a control issue).

And she has been intently studying the book Goodnight Gorilla. The Gorilla snags the zoo keeper's keys and follows him around to all the cages unlocking them after the zoo keeper bids each animal goodnight. I am having flashbacks of the Shawshank Redemption. She just pours over the pictures of the locks and keys and seems to relish the "no-no"ness of it all.

Clever. That's what her referral report said. Yes, mommy will be very busy now for many years.

Clever indeed. Sometimes too clever for her own good!

I read somewhere that at this age, it's all about opening and closing, in and out. Could you "give" Abbey one drawer/cupboard and let her mess that one up, and tell her the others are off limits?

Love the Goodnight Gorilla book (naughty Gorilla!).

Hey, you want to meet us in San Antonio TX in December? We're going down for a conference and are going to see Kelly & her family (and hopefully some of the other TX families!). K1 is trying to come down as well.

Oh yeah! I wanted to recommend a book by Peggy Rathmunn (author of Goodnight Gorilla. You might have heard of it (and you might even have it) but it's one of my kids' (and my) all time favorites: it's called Ruby, the Copycat. Love, love, love this book!

Another great favorite around here: Something from Nothing by Phoebe Gilman. If I think of any others that I'd recommend, I'll let you know.

PS I'm serious about San Antonio in December!

Clever girl, I am sitting here grinning at your story. My little one is the same, she can unlatch, unlock, unscrew and pry just about anything.

Try the magnetic ones. Not perfect. But I've had much better luck with those locks (just get an extra "key" so that you don't get locked out).

I was going to recommend the magnets as well. They helped keep me from pulling my hair out. Courtney never could get into the cabinet locks (and still has trouble at almost 15), but boy could Greg. He was doing it at 8 months old. C would have him open stuff for her and she is 4 1/2 years older.
    Your fun has just begun!

Oh no... :O) I'd be just like you, I want things where they belong!
I guess our children certainly teach us not to sweat the small stuff...

I knew this girl was going to give you a run for your money! It is not all necessarily a control issue either--a lot is safety--only God knows what they will do with what they find in a cupboard! Boy, do go & check every cabinet to make sure she can get in---whoa baby! I think she needs the straight & narrow path! I guess I will have to read the Gorilla book just to see how it goes. Maybe this taught her something???? Well....I guess my prayers will be changing--Lord, Keep Abbey Out and Give Christi Patience!
