Trying to Comprehend

This a view of the whole page that Zhuozhuo's finding ad was placed in. She's the fourth one on the bottom row. Above her ad you may have noticed the numbers 1389. This means that she was the 1,389th baby whose ad was run in this newspaper last year. Only babies being place for international adoption have an ad in this newspaper, it does not account for all the other foundlings. This is the Nanchang Famer's Daily and covers the Guangdong Province. The gravity of the numbers of children without families is really beginning to register with me. I am a little bit staggered with the thought that this is one province in one country...babies, babies, all needing families.

It is staggering to think of all those children I wish I could save them each one of them. But we can make a difference one child at a time.

...and on we wait to be those families.

The numbers are breathtaking & heartbreaking at the same time. Yet, hope remains for all.

I thought the same thing too when that video surfaced on the internet of the family allowed to visit their child's orphanage... the dad counted 47 babies in that room. And that has stuck with me... 47 babies, in one room, in one orphanage.... how many must there really be? It broke my heart.

In the newspaper that Gracie's finding ad is in...there are 142 on that day. Unbelievable!

Oh, honey. I know just how you are feeling right now... the magnitude of it all- and it hits you so much harder when you have your referral. What is so sad to me is how many of us there are who would do anything to parent these babies- but China just won't release them all...

    Big hugs,
    Shana
